The 23rd Annual SAG Awards® will air live on TNT and TBS, Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017

 

LOS ANGELES (Jan. 19, 2016) — Casey Affleck, Mahershala Ali, Naomie Harris, Lucas Hedges, Taraji P. Henson, Brie Larson, Janelle Monáe, Viggo Mortensen and Octavia Spencer will be presenters at the 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards®, Executive Producer Kathy Connell announced today.

This elite group joins a growing roster of actors who will honor their colleagues at the SAG Awards® Ceremony that already includes Life Achievement Award presenters Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton. The 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards® will be simulcast live on TNT and TBS on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017 at 8 p.m. (ET)/5 p.m. (PT).

Casey Affleck is a double SAG Awards nominee this year for his performance in Manchester by the Sea: Outstanding Performance by a Male Lead in a Motion Picture and Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. He previously was nominated for Male Actor in a Supporting Role for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2008).

Mahershala Ali has the distinction of receiving the most SAG Awards nominations this year. He is nominated for his supporting role in Moonlight and as a cast member of both that film and Hidden Figures. Ali has three previous nominations, two for House of Cards (Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, 2016 and 2015) and one for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Cast in a Motion Picture, 2009)

Naomie Harris is a first-time Actor® nominee. Her Outstanding Performance in Moonlight is being considered for both Female Actor in a Supporting Role and Cast in a Motion Picture.

Lucas Hedges joins the exclusive roster of SAG Awards nominees for the first time this year in two Outstanding Performance categories for Manchester by the Sea: Male Actor in a Supporting Role and Cast in a Motion Picture.

Taraji P. Henson has received six previous Actor® nominations, three of which were for Boston Legal (Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series 2009, 2008 and 2007). She was twice nominated in 2009 for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, both for her supporting role and as a cast member. Her first motion picture cast nomination was in 2006 for Hustle & Flow.

Brie Larson received The Actor® in 2016, recognizing her Outstanding Performance by a Female Lead in a Motion Picture. Her SAG Award for her role in Room had been Larson’s first nomination.

Janelle Monáe is under consideration for two different films this year, Moonlight and Hidden Figures. Her nominations for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture are her first.

Viggo Mortensen took home an Actor® in 2004 as a member of the cast of Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2004. A double SAG Award nominee this year for both his leading role and as a cast member of Captain Fantastic, he was previously nominated for Eastern Promises (Male Lead in a Motion Picture, 2008); and with his fellow cast members for Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2003) and Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2002).

Octavia Spencer was honored with two Actor® statuettes for her performance in The Help (2012): Female Actor in a Supporting Role and Cast in a Motion Picture. She is nominated this year in those two categories for her performance in Hidden Figures.

 

About the 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards®

The 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards® presented by SAG-AFTRA with Screen Actors Guild Awards, LLC will be produced by Avalon Harbor Entertainment, Inc. and will be simulcast live on TNT and TBS on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017 at 8 p.m. (ET) / 5 p.m. (PT). TBS and TNT subscribers can also watch the SAG Awards live through the networks' websites and mobile apps. In addition, TNT will present a primetime encore of the ceremony immediately following the live presentation. The telecast is available internationally, including to U.S. military installations through the American Forces Network.

Honorees for outstanding television and film stunt ensemble action performances will be announced from the red carpet during the SAG Awards Red Carpet Pre-show. 

One of the awards season’s premier events, the SAG Awards® annually celebrates the outstanding motion pictures and television performances from the previous calendar year. Of the top industry honors presented to actors, only the SAG Awards are selected entirely performers’ peers in SAG-AFTRA, which this year number 121,546. The SAG Awards was the first televised awards show to acknowledge the work of union members and the first to present awards to motion picture casts and television ensembles.
